How to Improve Your Posture Permanently

Whether you’re standing, sitting, or lying down, your posture holds your body together. A stretching trainer understands the importance of aligning the human body with itself. Through specific stretching techniques, it’s possible to improve and maintain the correct posture.

Helpful Tips for a Better Posture

Standing

Standing properly involves allowing the balls of your feet to bear your full weight with your knees slightly bent and both of your feet kept at about shoulder-width apart. When you stand, you’ll need to pull your shoulders backward in order to lift your chest. In order to reduce the strain on your jaw and neck, you’ll need to pretend as though a book were on your head so that you can bring your chin level.

Furthermore, your arms should be hanging down the sides of your body as you slightly tuck in your stomach in order to maintain your back’s natural curve.

Sitting

When you’re sitting, be sure to keep your ankles in front of your knees and your feet on a footrest if they can’t reach the floor. Avoid crossing your legs because this position places tension on your lower back muscles. Don’t lean to one side, tilt your head or hunch your shoulders forward and keep your knees at the level of your hips or below it.

Support the lower and middle portion of your back by using a small pillow in the lower back. Your forearms should be parallel to the ground and your ears, shoulders, and hips kept in a vertical line. Lastly, be sure to stand and stretch every forty-five minutes.

Lying Down

Use a firm mattress and sleep with a pillow under your head that’s enough to support your normal neck curve. Don’t sleep on your stomach to avoid backache. When sleeping on your side, place a pillow between your legs to keep your lower spine from rotating.
