The Stretch Zone Method® addresses flexibility from a neurological perspective. This is achieved by dealing with the muscle’s nervous tension (“tonus”) to reach an optimal active range of motion. The goal is not to make a person more “flexible” or “elastic,” but rather enable you to move more functionally by re-establishing a more ideal resting muscle tone. By re-educating the associated nerve-muscle reflex, the Stretch Zone Method® leads to movement becoming easier and more efficient.
Rather than creating soreness by pulling on our limbs to extremes, the Stretch Zone Method® works through the nervous system to achieve lasting gains in flexibility and range of motion. The method rests on the notion that changing and re-educating our muscle’s nervous energy is a major factor in unleashing our body’s intended function. This nervous energy, known as the stretch reflex, is our body’s automatic defense against the dangers of over-stretching. Any movement that goes too fast or too far, or is held for too long, will cause your body to resist with the stretch reflex. Once the reflex is activated, your body has effectively said “no more” and resists the stretch. Any further attempt at stretching becomes counter productive and may even cause long term damage.

Karen Howze Filter is a native South Carolinian, having been raised in Travelers Rest. After graduating from Wofford College, she raised her 2 daughters in the Lowcountry. She enjoys mountain biking, hiking, basketball, scuba diving--even skydiving. After moving back to the Upstate in 2016, Karen met Keith, her business partner, now husband. They believe that a healthy lifestyle is greatly enhanced by stretching on a regular basis and are excited to bring practitioner-assisted stretching to Mooresville! When not working, they lead an active lifestyle with their 4 children, family, and friends.
Kathi has been in the fitness industry for over 25 years. She has been the Director of Fitness at various clubs and country clubs. She is a certified Personal Training and Group Exercise Instructor. She is also certified in Yoga and Pilates, Pre-Natal, Cycle, USA-cycle coach, TPI Golf Fitness and a Certified Health Coach. Her fitness mantra is: Just START! The first step is the hardest but also the most important. Kathi is married to Bruce and has 2 son's Luke (wife Ellen), Austin (wife Adri) and grandson Luca. She loves to travel and spend time with her family.
Shelby graduated from Charleston Southern University in 2020 with a kinesiology degree and has worked in public health and corrective rehab. Her fitness mantra is to find something you enjoy so you do it often. Shelby's favorite stretch is the bow and arrow and the glute stretch. She loves wakeboarding and being on the lake.
Tevin graduated from Pfeiffer University in 2021 with a Health and Exercise Science degree and is now pursuing a master's in leadership. His fitness mantra is always keeping a positive mindset and make the most of each moment. Tevin's favorite stretch is the spinal twist and Chiro stretch. He loves to run, lift weights, and spend time with family.
Eli graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2021 with a BS in Exercise Science. Eli is a soccer fanatic, he played in Spain during high school before taking his game and studies to the collegiate level. His fitness mantra is to consistently participate in any physical activity that brings you joy for as long as you can. Elis' favorite stretch is the double chicken wing. He is also a Spanish Interpreter at a local pediatric clinic. In his spare time, he loves to watch soccer, go for hikes and read.
